Here are some of the tips given by our experts that you can take care of while planting a vegetable in your garden.

  1. Choosing the Wrong Place: – In choosing a location, avoid any low spots that stay wet in the spring. Also avoid gardening at the bottom of a slope, as air can form a frost pocket. Most vegetables need plenty of sunshine to encourage strong growth and high yields, so it is best to locate your new garden in an open site that isn’t overshadowed by trees, boundary structures, or buildings.
  2.  Planting at the Wrong time of year: – Each vegetable has its own climatic requirements. Some need more sunshine, some require heavy rains, and some require a cool climate. Therefore, before planting do ask an expert which season suits the crop best.
  3.  Planting too many vegetables: – Planting more than you can eat or even take care of is a common mistake starting out. Vegetable gardens are a lot of work. It is much more rewarding to enjoy success with a smaller garden than to struggle to try to keep up with a large space.
  4.  Not giving proper spacing: -Not realizing that each plant needs its own space will lead to the undergrowth of the plant. It will not get proper space to expand and will start collapsing. So, it is better to consult an expert and give them the required space. Tomatoes, for example, require good air circulation to remain healthy, so be sure to space them at least 2-3 feet apart. If planted too closely, they’re more likely to be stricken with problems, such as blight.
  5.  Watering too much or too little: -Consistent watering is essential for good harvests. Most crops do just fine when they receive about an inch of moisture a week. Different vegetables have different watering needs. For example, tomatoes should be watered at ground level. Overhead watering can encourage diseases and blights. Drip hoses are a good choice for watering tomato plants. Other vegetables like corn, and lettuces and broad-leaf plants like squashes are more tolerant of water with an overhead sprinkler system.
  6.  Not improving the soil: – Good soil is the key to success with any garden and is especially important when you are growing food crops. Vegetables are heavy feeders, so if you do not improve your soil with several inches of compost, rotted manure, or shredded leaves, your crops will probably suffer. Spread several inches of organic matter over the surface of the soil and till or spade it into the top foot of the soil. Once you are done, your garden will be ready for planting.
  7.  Not concerning minor problems: – You should monitor your plants regularly. If you see yellow leaves or spots, make a correction before the whole row of plants becomes ill. Insects like to lay their eggs on the undersides of leaves; scraping off the eggs before they hatch can help avert the problem. Whether the problem is caused by a bacteria or insect infestation, it may not be necessary to treat it with commercial sprays and insecticides. Some plant problems such as blossom end rot on tomatoes can often be remedied simply by removing the affected fruit.

Vegetable gardening is an ongoing learning experience made up of lots of small successes and some failures. Begin with good soil, good seeds, and good garden practices and the knowledge will follow.
